Gletscher geh\u00f6ren zu den wichtigsten Bildhauern der Berge. Sie entstehen durch die Verdichtung und Rekristallisation von Schnee, wenn im Winter mehr Schnee f\u00e4llt, als im Sommer schmilzt. Unter dem Einfluss der Schwerkraft bewegen sich diese gewaltigen Eismassen langsam talw\u00e4rts \u2013 mit Geschwindigkeiten von wenigen Metern bis zu mehreren Dutzend Metern pro Jahr \u2013 und pr\u00e4gen dabei nachhaltig die Alpenlandschaft. <\/span><\/p>\n

Die Landschaft, wie wir sie heute kennen, ist das Ergebnis jahrtausendelanger Erosionsprozesse, die vor allem durch zwei Mechanismen wirken: Abrasion<\/b> und Plucking<\/b>.<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/span>Abrasion<\/b> \u2013 An der Basis des Gletschers wirkt das im Eis eingeschlossene Gesteinsmaterial wie Schleifpapier. Die Bewegung des Gletschers poliert den Felsuntergrund glatt und hinterl\u00e4sst Rillen und Kratzspuren. Mitunter entstehen dabei abgerundete, asymmetrische Formen, die sogenannten Rundh\u00f6cker, welche die Flie\u00dfrichtung des Eises anzeigen. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Plucking<\/b> \u2013 Wenn Schmelzwasser in Gesteinsrisse eindringt und gefriert, \u00fcbt es Druck aus und sprengt die Felsen auf. Der Gletscher rei\u00dft die gel\u00f6sten Bl\u00f6cke mit sich, lagert sie in der Mor\u00e4ne ab und vertieft das Gel\u00e4nde weiter. <\/span><\/p>\n

Auch das Schmelzwasser spielt eine entscheidende Rolle. In temperierten Gletschern flie\u00dft es oft unter hohem Druck unter dem Eis, gr\u00e4bt Rinnen in den Untergrund und formt im Laufe der Zeit tiefe Schluchten und Gletscherkare. Die Intensit\u00e4t dieser Erosion h\u00e4ngt von Faktoren wie Wassermenge, Turbulenz und Gesteinsh\u00e4rte ab. <\/span><\/p>\n
